Competition Rules
Eligibility
The competition is open to trombonists of all nationalities.
Two categories are offered:
Open Category: no age limit
Junior Category: up to and including 21 years old
Participants may compete on either tenor or bass trombone.
Application and Registration
Participants must complete the official registration process and pay the required fee.
All applicants must submit their repertoire choices for Round 2 and the Final at the time of registration at the Festival Desk.
Changes to repertoire after the application deadline may not be permitted.
Competition Format
The competition consists of three rounds.
Round 1 (Preliminary): unaccompanied performance of the commissioned work.
Round 2 (Semifinal): one work with piano accompaniment selected from the official repertoire list.
Final Round: one major work with piano accompaniment.
Repertoire
All participants must perform repertoire from the official repertoire list.
Repertoire must be performed in accordance with the published requirements for each round.
Cuts are not permitted unless explicitly approved by the organizers.
Piano Accompaniment
An official competition pianist will be provided for Round 2 and the Final Round.
As Round 1 is unaccompanied, participation in later rounds includes an additional accompaniment fee
to be paid by candidates who advance to Round 2 and/Final Round.
A rehearsal time with the pianist will be scheduled prior to the performance.
Participants may perform with their own pianist at their own expense, subject to prior approval by the organizers.
Jury and Evaluation
The jury consists of internationally recognized artists.
Performances will be evaluated using a 0–100 point scoring system.
Each jury member will vote independently.
No discussion will take place before scores are submitted.
In the case of equal scores, the jury may discuss and determine the final ranking.
In the case of a conflict of interest, jury members will abstain from voting.
The jury reserves the right to advance or not advance candidates and to withhold prizes if the required artistic level is not met.
All jury decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded in both categories according to the official prize structure.
Additional special prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the jury.
Non-monetary prizes, including instruments and accessories, may also be awarded.
Schedule and Participation
The competition will take place during the Thailand Trombone Festival 2026.
Round 1 and Round 2 are scheduled for 4–5 August 2026.
The Final Round will take place during the festival in a public concert setting.
The order of performance will be determined by the organizers.
Participants must be available for all rounds and adhere to the official schedule.
Failure to appear at the scheduled time may result in disqualification.
General Conditions
The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the schedule or competition format if necessary.
The competition may be recorded, and recordings may be used for promotional purposes.
